Works.
I continually modify and explore ideas.
There is rarely only one painted layer resulting in distortions and exaggerated features.
The paint and surface often dictate what appears by using expressive mark making and subtractive painting techniques.
Often the initial painting is developed at life drawing classes but the final image will alter considerably during the working progress back in my studio, where imagination and mark making take over, resulting in more than a likeness and maybe just a resemblance, so facial expressions with their steady gaze confront the viewer directly, sometimes with uneasy undertones to hold attention.
